We spent another day and night based in Seville before leaving.
Our last day, we trained to the beach town of Cadiz, a couple hours away. We wandered the streets there, viewing the great cathedral, the other buildings, the architecture and I actually found myself loosing interest in what was beginning to feel like more of the same. After many cathedrals, many palaces, many beautiful buildings, I was loosing the passion and amazement that I experienced in the beginning of our travels. Similar to the bull fighting experience, my senses had become numb, as a pattern repeated itself.
Just in time, we discovered something new. In Cadiz, there are the ruins of an ancient Roman Theatre. The stones were built into a small hillside and the years of time had left only a resemblance of what the original structure must have been like. Down under the seating steps, were tunnels used by the performers and participants of the theatre. It was a fresh adventure!
The Atlantic ocean was across from the ruins. We walked and walked, trying to find a perfect beach on which to settle. We discovered another ancient castle jutting out from the beach on a long stone walkway~Castille de Sebastian. The breeze on the pier was lovely, as the day was very hot. We walked back and settled on the beach, took naps and wiggled our toes in the sand and water.
Returning to Seville for our last evening, we enjoyed tapas again and had a mellow evening before heading out to the airport in the morning. For one reason we were glad to leave Seville….bugs. I think it is possible we were attacked in the night by bed bugs…..what was happening to Molly did not seem like mosquitoes. Each morning she woke with additional bites, red bumps, on her face, neck, arms and hands mostly, some on her feet. I had a few also, and they itch unlike our local mosquito friends. We tried poking “x”s on the bites, tried rubbing banana peel on them and finally bought some antihistamine for her……she looks a bit like she has the chicken pox. Just writing this makes me itch……………
